Moving checklist
Moving house is a project made of a hundred small jobs, and most of them have a deadline: notice periods, utility transfers, mover bookings. Forget one and it tends to surface on moving day, when you have the least time to fix it.
This checklist starts eight weeks before the move and runs through your first week in the new home. If your move is sooner, start at the phase that matches your date and do any earlier tasks that still apply.

Tips
Label by room, not only by contents
Movers put boxes where the label says. "Kitchen: baking trays" gets a box to the right room and tells you when it can wait.
Keep moving day light
Finish packing the night before. Moving day goes better when your only jobs are directing, checking and carrying the box you packed for yourself.
Photograph before you unplug
A quick photo of the cables behind the TV or computer saves a lot of guessing at the other end.
